Modified
The modified classification includes common designs that have somewhat of a twist or unique element. These designs may have been a favourite of a local contractor, artisan, architect or land owner. Examples of Modified designs include two or more different shingle shapes used on the same building eg. a row of round shingles with another row of diamond shingles directly above it gives a teardrop effect (see below). Shingled archways, eyebrows, and curved rows are also usually included in the modified classification. Reduced exposures and short border rows are often used as well.

Teardrops are made using the Round and Diamond shapes. In this example the exposure of the diamond row is reduced by half to align with the sides of the curve.
